I have a 2003 Explorer XLS with tan cloth 2 row seating in very good condition that I want to convert to a 3 row. Anyone here looking to convert the opposite? I will do all the labor on both trucks if needed. I'm in the NYC area and have no problem coming to you to do the conversion if you're not crazy far away!

Here's some pictures of my interior for those interested in a trade. Only bad spot on the seats is the crack in the vinyl on the drivers seat.

i think it is much more involved than just swapping seats, I don't think yours is "prepped" for the 3rd row. have you done your homework prior to gutting your car and the doaner car?

The 2-row models actually have more rear cargo capacity (lower load floor) than the 3-row models. And IIRC, the 2nd row seats are different, too.

But, like the OP said, if both vehicle are present, everything should be relocatable. Swap the second row seats, and swap the 3rd row with the rear cargo components. If you are careful, the worst that could happen is having to put things back.

That said, I see no real benefit for someone to take you up on the offer, other than maybe 3-4 inches more cargo height. In fact, resale value will go down. When I was looking, if it didn't have a 3rd row, I didn't waste my time. So you might need to offer some money, too.

There is a write up already on this swap, it is doable.

Some people will never use the 3rd row, might be in the way for audio equipment etc... also you could gain like a fraction of an MPG by removing the extra weight

So there is a market for both options

I expected to pay something on top of doing all the work if necessary. Just wanted to see who'd be interested in doing the swap first.

i took out my third row and traded a guy for his cargo area. the swap was easy. the only thing is in the 2 row version all the holes that are for the 3rd row are not threaded. but all the bolts for the seat swap are self threading. it took me about two hours for the swap.

I might have lucked out. Found a seat someone is willing to swap. The seats are a different pattern, so I have to swap all 3 rows. I do all the labor and throw him $200. I think it's a good deal for me.

i think so:thumbsup:

Dont forget the 3rd row seatbelts
and interior rear panels are different too as they have the holes for the seatbelts to come out of
