i noticed some minor rust on the passenger side door of my 02 ford Ranger. its forming on the bottom of the door lip where the outter door skin folds over the door frame.

is there a presentable repair for this without going to the body shop for paint?

Get some grease and smear on top of the seam. :)

should i wire wheel the rust/bubbled paint off? mask areas off and paint with a rust inhibitive paint. then if its really noticable which i dont think it will since its so low, maybe get some touch up paint in a spray bomb and touch it up

My dads 99 mountaineer has that problem. It is horrible. It is pathetic that it starts so early. I have not had a problem on my 99 though. I keep it much cleaner than he does though.

Best way to fix it would be to remove all the rust you can find, use a rust preventative paint such as eastwood rust encapsulator or por-15 and then if you want a good color match, find a spray can paint at the store.

Smear grease on it. Will say it again and again. Dad's done it for years. The backsides of the posts for the rear hatch have it in the cavity behind the tail light. It will slowly seep into it and stop it from spreading.

Friend did it to his hatch on his Explorer. Said there hasn't been anymore progress.

i wire wheeled everything off. taped the door off and slopped plenty of eastwood rust encapsulator on that baby. came out nice. since its so low you cant see the repair unless you bend down and look.

still gunna try to find some touch up in a spray can.

theres what appears to be two drain holes on the far ends of the door. i think since i treated the outside with the paint before getting the metal all oily so nothing could stick to it. im gunna take a can of engine fogging oil since that seems thicker then like WD40 and stick the plastic tube in those holes and let her rip.

just make it part of my maintence.

lol change oil, grease suspension, oil door rust.
