Hey, i just installed my apten chip and something is not right. My switch is different from the one pictured so I called apten to see what number does what. Its a turn dial with 0 to 9 on it. The guy on the phone was a retard and didn't seem to know much. He told me 0 is 91 octane, 1 is 87 octane, and 7 is stock. So after I installed it, I left the setting on 7 and the truck started fine, then I tried 1 and the truck takes alittle while to start and runs rough and tries to stall, last i tried 0 and it started fine. So this leads me to think the dumbass on the phone told me the wrong numbers. It seems to me to me that 0 is 87, 1 is 91, and 7 is still stock. I had alittle less than 1/4 tank (87 octane) left so i put it in 0 and took it on the highway, the truck seems to shift harder so i guess its in the right setting (87 performance). I then put 3/4 of 92 octane in, turned the setting to 1 and tried to start, it started up quicker but it runs like sh*t and the truck almost dies if i go past 2000 RPMS and now the check engine light is on. I cleaned the contacts good too. What could be the problem? The guy told me 91 octane, but we dont have that in my area, so i put in 92, is this the problem? Thanks for any help.

It should start and run fine on either performance position, no matter what gas you have it the tank. The difference may be ping under load if in the 91 position with 87 gas. I would call back and speak to Brian. It is possible that position has a programming problem He will help/advise you.

Ok, im going to call on monday and see what they can do for me. BTW i heard that Brian is no longer with Apten.

Brian is with the SVT department now. MDMotorsports bought Apten. From what I understand, Brian still does work for them on some of the Diablo chips, but he is out of Apten for the most part. I just sent my chip back to them, and Brandon explained it to me. He said he was having to send my chip to Brian so he could reprogram it.

Hello everyone :)

To clarify things a little bit, as a part of it's growth Apten moved to Cincinnati Ohio. They are still developing the SOHC explorer kit, and still doing the same quality explorer/ranger tunes.

I recently accepted a position to work for Superchips Custom Tuning in Orlando, FL. Apten is one of SCT's customers, so I continue to support them and help with their tuning.

I also apologize for the delays in service anyone recieved. We hoped for a smooth transision, but there was about 3 weeks were I was moving from St. Louis to Florida and I was unable to take calls or emails sent to me. Right now everything is back to where it should be, and the last of the chip reburns was shipped out late last week.

I still have my 99 sport, so I hope to spend more time here when I get a free moment.

Brian

so it is still safe to order an Apten Chip ?
