Recently the light that indicates"automatic ride control system disabled" started to come on after 15 minutes drive, but only with 2-3 passengers in the car!
If I switch the ignition of and start again the light is out but comes back again after another 15 minutes.
Any ideas what the reason can be for this phenomenon?
The X is a -97 4x4 SOHC.

Is the message "Check air ride System"? if so, you may have something wrong with one or two of the sensors. they are located in the front drivers side wheel well, and coming off the rear axle to the frame. That would be a good place to start. Also, did you check that the switch in the rear compartment is still switched to the 'on' position. Its located in the rear panel near the jack.

What message? and yes, the system is switched on. I suppose the light indicates that something is wrong with the ARC system, is there a "typical" fault to look for first?
When I drove to work this morning, with 3 passangers, the system worked normal. Strange, the problem seems to come and go

I know this is a long time ago but I'm now experiencing the same problem on my 1997 Explorer 4.0 sohc.
Did you ever get a good answer to your query, and if you did - do you know the solution.
Thanks
