Dear Friends from the forum,

I´m from Brazil and I intend to purchase a 2000 Explorer Limited 5.0

I know about the car qualities,m but I still have doubts about the ARC system.

1) does ALL the Limited 5.0 AWD models have this kind of suspension?
2) can I just eliminate the ARC system turning it off and removing it´s components like tubbings and air compressor and installing for example PROCOMP ES9000 shocks?
3) my major doubt is if the electronic shocks may have different sizes or mountings from the regular shocks like the PROCOMP... or it´s just just a simple extracting of the electronic and installing the regular ones?

My best regards for all,

Guilherme Nüske

Why would you want to disconnect it. I have a 98 EXP Limited 5.0 with the ARC also. I just replaced the front shocks with Monroes (who make the OEM shocks for Ford) and it works great. The air leveling shock absorber REPLACES the eletronic adjustable air leveling shock absorber used on the Ford Explorer Limited from 1995 to 1998. I suspect yours is the same. This damper maintains the air leveling feature, but eliminates the electonic damping. The air leveling and electronic damping adjustments are separate portions of the system. The new shocks just cut the electric wires to the electronic damping but the leveling function still works just fine (the air hoses). The new replacement shocks from Ford dealer parts ($$$) installs the same way (cut the wires, tape them off).
