Are body lifts easy to install??

I believe that the subject speaks for itslef. I have a 92 XLT 4 door. I just got a 2" lift from Nat'l Tire & Wheel, and am debating wether or not to do it myself, or take it to someone.

If it is easy to do, then are there any do's or don'ts to be aware of, mainly so I don't loose any extremety in the process! ;-) I don't think that loosing limbs at this time in my life would definatley be a bad thing.

It's a fairly simple process, you're just removing the 10 bolts that hold the body to the frame. After they're removed you will have to raise the body off of the frame to insert the blocks. I would suggest using hydraulic jacks to raise it(preferrably 2) and have someone there with you. It takes a while but is definitely possible, just be sure to read the instructions because they will usually give the simplest way.

Don't forget the steering extension, the bumpers (if you want to raise it to cover the gaps), and the radiator fan shroud.

hey, it is a largely dependent on free time thing, the bolts for the mid cab, are under the front seats, (read unbolt seats lean them outta the way to get to them, the one on the drivers side rear forward cargo area, just behind the rear seat is above the fuel tank, semi difficult to get at, you can either drop the fuel tank, hope it's near empty, or try to reach in the fenderwell with a skinny arm and long wrench, the shape of the washer and nut assembly is "supposed" to stay put but my started to turn. trans shifter extension, if it's auto, not enough beer in the fridge for all the guys that come to help and just watch and ask questions the whole time. .... i think theres more but i'm outta beer, buy some more and i might think of it... have fun i enjoyed doing every one i have done.

gidday Kyle, interesting post, Im planning a complete underbody rubber replacement on my 01 sport trac ( V6) I guess its the same procedure huh, seats, front and rear, floor mats and other internal stuff, then there is the Tub, I guess the plastic insert has gotta come out, so as to access the mounts under it ??? I dont know, then tip one side up enough to get the oldies out and put the newies in, by the way the truck and I live in the Philippines, so info is vital here mate, cos I gotta do it meself, just dont trust em' here, Im ok on the beer though, seem to have a never ending supply, just short on knowledge about this job Im about to undertake, so any tips will be greatly appreciated......love to share a beer wich ya......Larry

i also live in the phil in subic. i just did a 3" lift on my '01 trac. i ordered a pre-fab kit from summit racing. it was not as "bolt-on" as they said. it is quite easy until after you have the lift rubbers in and start re-assembly. you will need to do some mod's to the shifter-trans cable mount. oil cooler lines have to be bent slightly, and if you want to retain the eyehooks on the front you will have to cut and modify. All in all i was 5-6 days. it turned out great but it was a lot of hot weather and beer!!

Raising the body

Gidday Mate, My plan is to only raise the body only enough to replace the rubber mounts which are s**t, and renew with better made ones, so no need to modify any components, cos its going back down to the same position.

You guys got any dealers up there who stock front and rear shocks for our rides, the Ford dealer down here has stock units, but Im told they only last 50 KM,,,, Munro, or Rancho, would be nice, keep in touch,,,,,,,,,,Larry, in Cagayan de oro
