I have a 94 Explorer Sport with the "Premium" stock speakers. I have to have the bass off for most songs I listen to to avoid bad buzzing. Otherwise the speakers sound decent. I don't mind replacing them but I want to make sure that it isn't the door panels or covers. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Will my speakers still buzz if I replace them?

Depends what you replace them with? Is your HU still stock as well? The factory speakers aren't: A)the best for bass to begin with, B)weren't built with super durability in mind and B)wont handle that much power. (the bass you hear from the factory speaks is mostly midrange/midbass fyi)

But if you get aftermarket speaks, you will most likely loss "bass" as well. My suggestion, get a subwoofer! Highpass all the other speaks say 80hz, and get a lil woofer to play sub 80hz.

I forgot to mention I have a Kenwood 40Wx4 deck. I usually listen to CDs or my iPod (iTrip). I notice thr problem on everything from Classical, Classic Rock and Pop. I'd love a sub but I use my back too much for storage. I don't like having to watch where I load things to avoid a woofer box and amp.

Anyone have noisy interior panels or can I just blame old tired speakers?

u might have a loose cone in the speakers(they are old) ud have to pull the panels to check
as 4 the sub look into a hidden sub system were u dont need to worry about hittin it

also ur hu is 40wx4 right??? did u hook those up to the speakers right cus if not that could cause a rattle!!!!

How would I hook it up wrong, + and -? When I got the splorer it had a old in dash sony deck. It skipped alot so I swapped it for my deck from my old car. I just changed the deck wire for wire. I will check it tonight to see if there is any crossed wires.

Any recomended setups for the hidden sub system?

um i think mtx makes one for the x but u might have to go custom which there is a forum some were on this site
just search for it!!!
good luck

I removed the right rear speaker and pulled off the stock grill. I noticed that the cone is seperated from the sides. I also noticed that there is foam on the grill I had just removed so I could have ripped it when I pulled it off. I reinstalled the speaker and the sound was the same, no change. I then removed the ash trays for both rear seats that are located next to the speaker grill. It helped on some songs but there is still a buzzing. After looking at the paper mache' like construction I am going to just repalce them and then diagnose from there.
