I guess I lean to hard, but the arm rest in my 1999 Explorer broke off. I called the local dealer and was told that the bracket is obsolete and would have to buy a whole new center floor piece.

Any ideas where I can just get a bracket?

Ditto the Ebay search... There are a few OEM dealers on ebay that make OEM replacement parts such as what you're looking for. I picked up a new arm rest bracket for my 1st gen for $25 + shipping and it was rock solid (metal inner support instead of plastic)

I think nearly everyone has broken this piece. I found a NEW one in a junkyard office... nicked me $40 for it. You will need something to cut the old pin out....I used an air rotary tool, a dremel would work I suppose... replacement was about a 30 min job.

Are you guys talking about the piece that goes all the way though the console to the floor? Are the ones that break made of plastic?

no the piece that is in and on top of the console, that touches the leather arm rest

I'll snap some pics later tonight when I get home (most of my interior is removed at the moment). The pics will show the 3 screws holding the console down along with the huge aluminum support bracket for the arm rest.

Ditto the arm rest pin being a pita to remove.. You need to use a dremel or similar rotary tool and cut the pin in the center. The problem I had was the cut off wheel (ceramic type) wasn't big enough (diameter wise) to cut all the way through. As such I had to make several angle cuts to eventualy hack it out... Definitely pic up some of the bigger reinforced wheels (they come 3 or 4 in a pack)

just broke mine about a week ago. pics will be great, that way i can see what the hell i'm doing

Here is the new arm rest bracket installed on my old arm rest. You can see the new bracket has a heavy duty metal skeleton where the old one was just plastic. You can also see the mounting pin at the bottom. This pin on the old one must be cut out.

You pry of the oval access covers on the console to reveal the 4 8mm bolts which secure the Arm rest bracket. Note: this pic was take with with the console and arm removed from the vehicle.

Here is the Arm rest frame support bracket.. it is very hefty.

View of the bracket and front mounting area for the console. Once you remove the arm rest bracket the console is only attached by 3 screws. The 2 black ones in the front, and a third screw (not shown) mounts in the center of the frame support bracket.
