Assembly of splitfire wires?

I just got new splitfire wires I had a few questions. There are 8 wires in the kit and I ordered it for a V6. Are the other 2 wires for any purpose, or did they send me the wrong box? There is also a short wire that doesn't have anything on it... what is that for? Also, I thought wires came assembled. You have to put these wires together it looks like, is that normal? I am leaning towards paying someone to install them for me.

That is a universal wire set. I bought a custom fit set, no cutting or assembly for my 91, 6 wires. You also might not have the right distrubutior terminals on the wires, check them. The short wire is for a remotely mounted ignition coil wich explorers don't have.
