I am planning to replace the Solenoid pack on my '02 explorer.
Having read a few threads on this site I feel this is my best bet since my tranny started having difficulty changing up from 2nd to 3rd (high revs). The OD light blinks and I am getting a P0745 code indicating a problem with the solenoid pack.
The replacement itself seems fairly straightforward but the problem I foresee is in replacing the ATF.
I realise that I have to pump the ATF back in through the drain plug but cannot figure out how I get around the fact that a significant amount of ATF could be remaining in the transaxle case.
One solution I thought of might be to measure the amount that I drain out and then replace the same amount. Does anyone think this will work or have a suggestion as to how I replace the right amount of ATF? I understand that as this tranny is a sealed unit the quantity is critical and needs to be filled at the right operating temp.
Also could driving the vehicle in this state have damaged the tranny?
