Hi,, i just about have everything together to drop my 94' 4.0 with 68k mils into my 92 Explorer to replace it's tired out 144k mil engine.
I'm looking for reccomendatoins on a timing set (chain and gears) as i have decied to go ahead and change that to,, im already changing the oilpump and pickup, all intake gaskets and valve cover gaskets.
If anyone can reccomend me to a good timing set and maybe a part number? if at all possible.
also any other ideas of things to do to the engine before instailing it are very welcome!
Thanx in advance for any info given!
Isaac:)

I used a Cloyes set -C3070 I think, Its a stock replacement, excellent quality., get a new tensioner if your going through the trouble to replace the chain.

If your replacing the valve and intake gaskets - use the Ford parts they cost more but IMO are worth the additional cost- check FPN they run a banner at the top of most pages on this site.

The only thing I would check would be the rockers and push rods- they wear quickly and hardened push rods may be a good idea- Smith Bros is quick and cheap if you can't treat yours.

Have fun

thanx,,

thanx for the info,,
anyone heard of "Dynagear" it's a brand i have offered localy here that i checked into,, couldnt find anything on that other brand.
anyone else? anything else?

At work we use Ertel almost exclusively. Reliability and cost seem good...... by that I mean I have seen no premature failures.

I can't recall ever using Dynagear in the past, though I see they have some sort of affiliation with Manley - products I've used with satisfaction in the past.

Timing chains are a highly stressed engine component and are subject to stretch no matter the brand. I will caution that you should check to see where your product of choice is manufactured. Many NA suppliers are sourcing their parts in the Pacific Rim. While I see the quality of many of the Chinese and Taiwanese parts are vastly improved I'm still concerned about quality control and the moral implications of supporting foreign sweatshops over strengthening the NA economy.

I have used Dynagear products in the past and they seem to be a decent product. Like jimmiecakes mentioned, they are a branch of the manley corporation, which is one of the better manufacturer of timing components.
