Audio Wiring Question...

Good Morning Everyone,

I have been having a problem with my audio system ever since someone broke into my truck and stole my Pioneer head unit. I have now replaced it with an older model JVC headunit which doesn't sound as great, but it gets the job done. Anyway, the issue I am referring to is that the speakers sometimes completely cut out (except for the driver front sides) or gets staticy when you hit a bump . The weird thing is that I completely took out the head unit, cut and respliced all of the wires behind the dash and then screwed the headunit into the dash itself. I am sure it is a short/loss wire somewhere in the car, but where else should I look? Or is there another issue that I am not aware of? Could the speakers actually be blown and I am not realizing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have Infintity Kappa Perfect 5x7 speakers, dynamatted front doors, ford premium sound system, a 10-disc Jensen cd changer (wired to the back of the truck), and a JVC basic headunit.

is it just the speakers that cut out or does the entire deck turn off briefly? if its just the speakers then I'd say you may have some exposed wiring somewhere that is touching a metal surface or a loose connection at the speakers themselves. Double check the connections to the speakers and try to see if any of the wiring behind the radio is exposed and touching the metal back there. Double check the fuses on the new deck and make sure they are the proper amperage as well.

Those would be my initial suggestions. I doubt the speakers are blown though. if they were they would either NEVER play at all, or would sound like total crap when they do work. So if neither of these symptoms apply to your speakers then they are not the culprits

Keep us posted on the results of the intial diagnostics.

Its possible that the theives weren't exactly "gentle" when pulling out the radio and may have stretched some of the wiring when they attempted to remove the harness from the radio hastily. so its also possible that the wiring jacket appears ok or slightly stretched but the wiring inside may not all be connected at that location and hitting the bumps causes it to lose its connection briefly... just another thought

The only way I can think of for the speakers to cut out intermittently is if you are overpowering them and the peak out, causing them kill for a minute.

So unless you are doing that, do the above steps...

If not, turn your music down some lol.

The only thing is when the speaker(s) go out, if I turn up the volume really fast, it clicks them back on... weird. What kind of wiring problem does that sound like? Thanks for all of your help.
