Okay I know this has probably ben asked 900000 times but I can't find it when I do a search. My 00 Explorer 4.0 XLT has a switch on the dash. I know that when it is in the Auto position that the front wheels do pull.

How does this work though. What would be the difference between Auto mode and 4wd High mode? Do the front wheels actually stop pulling at a certain speed when in Auto mode?

i believe that in the Auto 4x4 mode, the front wheels are active until they lose traction , then the rear wheels kick in

when you switch it to the 4x4 position, its on constantly

Try searching for Control Trac.

Nope.

4auto: rears 95%, fronts less than 5%, until rear traction is lost.

4hi: 50/50 or thereabouts

4lo: 50/50 with added gear reduction.

Exactly what I was lookign for folks. Thank You
