auto, 4x4, low switch on dash does not work

Have this problem. when I turn the 4x4 on it lights up in the dash, but it doesn't engage. and it does not light up when you put on auto or low. what could it be?

4x4 low

are you switching from 4x4 high to 4x4 low in neutral. if your in park and just
turning the switch it won't work has to be in neutral. hope this helps
