OK, I recently bought a 94 Explorer, 4x4, auto, autohubs. It has 123k on the odometer.
Went to use 4wd to pull out of a mud hole, pushed the 4x4 button and the front wouldnt pull, was making a
clicking noise. I assumed that the hubs had failed to
engage. Carefully rocked the truck back and forth
and they finally engaged.
I have been told to take the hubs out and grease
them with white lithium grease and check for any
breakage. Does this sound right?
If there is breakage, should I replace the auto hubs
with Warn manual hubs?
Thanks for your help.
So far, I really like this thing and actually plan
on doing some mild upgrades soon.

Welcome to the forum!
I had the exact same problem with mine at 117K miles. When I took apart my automatic hubs, there was no discernible breakage, yet they suffered from the same malfunctions that you already prescribed despite greasing (Li grease). I put in manual WARNs and have had no problems-this is what I would recommend.
Hope you have fun with your X!!

Yes, your autos are gone. Switch to Warn manuals.

And WELCOME!!!

OK.....how about this. I have 3 mid 80's Jeep Grand Wagoneers with Warn manual hubs.
Will these fit?
If/when I do change to the Warn hubs.
Will I have to do anything with the inside
wiring and switch?

Thanks,

John Batte

no, totally different hubs, on totally different axles. my hubs wont engage unless my truck moves a little bit, but after that they will engage sorta ok. the kit and the hubs cost about $180 total.

i hit reply before i meant to, my mistake. here is a link to the hubs you need: Dead Link Removed
and here is the kit you will need:Dead Link Removed
its actually a little over 200, but if you look around a bit you can find them cheaer than 4 wheel parts wholesalers. have fun!

Hey FourXfred, i'm confused. I am switching to warn hubs also and the conversion kit part number from warn that i understand for a 94 ford explorer with auto hubs on there right now should be "32720" on the website you have listed here they say is should be part number "27997"

Does anyone know which one it is suppose to be?

Thanks for the help
