Didn't see a electrical page to post on, so mods please move if this is in the wrong spot. Picked up a 07 Limited last night with 40,000 miles. It has an auto start from ford on it. Spent some time reading through fords auto start manual, but they don't go into troubleshooting. I'll hit the lock button, then hit the "key" button to activate the auto start. The headlights, interior lights, radio, and instrument lights all turn on, and the horn beeps 3 times, and the security light starts blinking rapidly, (programming issue?) but that's it. No engine turn over. All doors are closed. Thoughts?

well after reading some threads on here (that helps doesn't it?) I'm going to try and diagnose the problem (see if it'll start with key in ignition) when I get home from work on sunday.

3 chirps is a door is ajar. shut all doors. is this a keyless/ remote start on one remote or the factory remote with the one button added on?

If 3 horn chirps means a door ajar, and you are sure all doors are closed (including hatch), then perhaps you have a faulty door sensor.

We had a door sensor go bad on our last minivan, and it prevented the interior lights from coming on when the driver door was opened (stuck in the closed position). Swapping right/left sensors confirmed the sensor was the culprit.

when we picked up the car...they gave us two fobs. one from the factory with lock, unlock, panic. and the other from the factory with lock, unlock, panic, and key start. I will take a better look at it when i get home. Everything else works flawlessely (is interior lights). Where would these door sensors be located?

Check your hood button. Open the hood and press it up and down....
like he said try all doors..

ok here is the diagnosis.....all doors closed...hood closed...(can not find a hood button ANYWHERE) lock doors, hit remote start. horn beeps, everything comes on, horn beeps once, theft light blinking rapidly. KEY IN IGNITION......lock doors, hit remote start....horn beeps, everything comes on, horn blows twice, theft light blinking normally...no start..then everything shut off in a couple seconds. I even tried reprogramming the remote, but when I push the button on the dash under the steering wheel for 15 seconds with the key "on" I don't even get the horn to beep to let me know i am in "reprogramming mode".

The horn switch is usually on the front side under the hood. It is a spring loaded black
stick button.. I have auto start on 3 cars and all have one there.
Done at 3 different places at that. Mine don't have any on the doors come to think about it.

Before I go to the Stealer I mean dealer Id go by best buy have one of the guys look at it.. Tell em you bought it used see what they can find.

if you have 2 keys start car with the first key, shut off, start with 2nd key, shut off then remote start. looks like bypass lost programming.

Door sensors are simple push-buttons near the door latches. When you close a door, this button is physically pressed inward. This closes a switch, "telling" the vehicle system that this particular door is closed. I haven't looked for it on my Mounty, but I'm sure it's there. Just open the door(s), and look for a button/plunger that would be pushed in when the door is closed.

the door switches are built into the latches. have to take door apart to get to it.

got it!! took apart the dash last night and figured the wire wrapped around the ignition was loose or wasn't hooked up. Put that back on, and it started right up. Had to run out and get a new battery for the remote because it didn't start farther than 10 feet away. Pretty odd because I know of the spring loaded hood switch and what it looks like, but I still can't seem to find one anywhere! Thanks though for all your help!

it will have a mercury switch attached to the hood. it should be mounted on drivers underside of hood. big silver thing. cant miss it unless it was not installed.
