Auto stop stopped stopping

I had the same issue with my 2020 ST and the dealer noted when the battery gets past a certain point of charge, this function will not operate. I got a new battery out of the deal.
The manual shows a variety of conditions that can affect the Stop/Start feature other than the battery. If the issue is traced to the battery, it doesn't necessarily mean that the battery is bad. It may just need charging like mine does every now and then.

Battery state of charge (SOC) is big part of the system shutting off, here's a few more than can shut the system off, not as simple as some people might think. :) Vehicle speed is 0 kph (0 mph) • Accelerator pedal is released. • Brake pedal is applied - Brake on/off switch activated (indicates ON) • Clutch pedal cruise control deactivator switch indicates the clutch pedal is released. Clutch pedal in full TOP position of travel. (manual transmission only) • Brake system pressure is approximately 482 kPa (70 psi) or greater • ABS is not active • Brake booster vacuum is present and a vacuum change does not occur while the vehicle is stopped • Gear selector lever in ‘N’ neutral for manual transmissions and ‘D’ drive for auto transmissions • Battery temperature is between 5° C (41° F) to 60° C (140° F) • A/C system is OFF, or there is no change in the A/C system request while the vehicle is stopped • If the A/C system is ON, ambient temperature should be less than 35° C (95° F) • Road grade while stopped is less than 15% • All doors remain closed and the occupied front seats have the seat belt latched. • The 110v alternating current inverter (if equipped) is under 10w electrical load and the electrical load does not change while stopped • Trailer harness is not connected • Tow/haul mode is not active • 4WD (if equipped) is in the 2WD position and does not change while stopped • Electronic locking differential (ELD), if equipped, is not engaged • In-car temperature is steady and no change is requested from the heating or A/C system • Engine coolant temperature is at the normal operating temperature • Max A/C or defrost is not selected • Blower fan control is at one speed setting and a speed change request does not occur while the vehicle is stopped • Rear defrost is not selected and a rear defrost request does not occur while the vehicle is stopped • Battery and charging system voltage is greater than 11.3 volts • Electrical load is less than 65 amps and a voltage or amperage load change does not occur while the vehicle is stopped • Steering wheel angle is less than 90° from the center position and a steering input change does not occur while the vehicle is stopped • Hill start assist is not active • Automatic transmission fluid temperature is less than 110° C (230° F) • Fuel level is greater than 1/8 full and the low fuel warning is not active.

I believe most of those conditions are all part of what the Manual lists. Yes, there are many items that determine whether or not the feature will work. In my case, being a very low mileage driver (6k miles in 39 months), mine very seldom engages.

Nope. Following our same route. Sixty degrees F outside and about 4 miles of continuous running before first stop where it should shut off. It doesn't. Finished the battery charge cycle and will try it again tomorrow to see if that solves it. The vehicle showed no signs of low battery charge and started fine after being garaged for four days, so I'm not hopeful, but we'll see.
My 2021 Explorer ST just started doing the same thing. After charging the battery it measures 12.3V with the engine off so I'm assuming it's a battery issue. Has anyone else reported this issue or found a solution other than replacing a 2 year old battery?

Welcome to the Forum.
After not engaging all winter, my start/stop feature actually worked again a couple of times last week after doing more driving than I usually do. Then of course it didn't engage yesterday or today. Not a big deal in my book. I attribute it to the battery not being fully charged as that is what I believe is its normal state due to short trips or just sitting parked. Like member Spacey, there usually are no signs/warnings of a low battery and the vehicle has never failed to start. I fully expect my 2023 Aviator to do the same thing. My 2020 is 3.5 years old and has just over 6500 miles on it.

I believe replacing the battery is the only "fix". When this "feature" stopped functioning I considered it a plus. However about 6 or so months later I noticed some weak starts. Dealer tested the battery as failed and replaced it under warranty about 2 weeks before the end of the vehicle's 3 year warranty.

Charging the battery has always worked for me over the last 3.5 years. If I were to put in a new battery, I would run into the same issue likely toward the end of the first year due to my driving or lack thereof. :D

My fusion wasn't doing it to often but then again I thought oh cold weather and all that then I got it function a little bit before oh no splash screen started to power off and tones started coming from instrument cluster I went to ford think it was the alternator. Low and behold battery was weak and acting up. I'm like Peter and maybe drive 8 to 9 k a year but with a fresh battery and warmer weather it's working.

Had the same problem in warranty but dealer said the battery was ok and said the Auto Stop Start could be caused by many other issues than the battery. Then after another required jump I got a Walmart Battery (760CCA vs 720CCA and much much better warranty) and that fixed the problem. I no longer use that dealer.

It is very possible that the battery was okay but just low enough to prevent the auto start/stop feature from activating. All tests of my battery also came back as good/passed. I'm sure if you had put it on a charger everything would have been fine. I also would not be surprised that you will experience the issue again in time.
There is a rather long list of things in the manual that can prevent the feature from working.

(Ford Technician) I see quite a few complaints on the system and it usually revolves around what Ford refers to as "state of charge" I see quite a few vehicles come in and it's at 50% or lower but the owners report no other concerns, I charge up the battery, reset the battery state of charge (need scan tool) and this usually takes care of the problem for awhile.
