Hi guys,

Having an issue with my trans dropping out of gear when it's cold. Am taking it back to the dealer on Tuesday as it's still under warranty, but want some ideas of what it might be before I do.

Reversing out the driveway, go about 10-15 feet and the car just stops like it's dropped out of gear then a second or 2 later it goes back in.

Sometimes it happens after I reverse out and put it into drive.

After that all is fine.

Any ideas of what it might be so the dealer doesn't feed me a load of BS ;)

Cheers

Well after what seems like an eternity (5 weeks) I should have my Explorer back from being fixed.

After the issue of it dropping out of gear didn't pop up again I did notice on the 27th of April a leak in the trans.

So I called the dealer as it was still under warranty. The dealer got me to book it into their contracted repairer to get it looked at and fixed, draw back was I had to wait a week, 2nd of May.

Dropped it off, waited the whole day, no call nothing. Called the repairer, "yep it's ready", went to pick it up, "how did you go" says me, "didn't touch it' says the mechanic!! turns out it had a leak in the torque converter seal and did not have the equipment to fix it!! Great!! The mechanic had then booked it in with a trans specialist around the corner and needed my Explorer back on the 12th of May as it was booked in for the 13th and they'd need it for a week. In the mean time he advised me not to drive it :(

12th of May came round, dropped it in, told them I'd be on holidays for that week and I'd pick it up on Wednesday 21st of may, "no problem, we'll hold it here till you get back"

Went to pick it up, after making wait 10-15 mins "nope not ready yet" "may be ready this afternoon or tomorrow" you're @$&%*@# kidding me!! "they had a few issues with it"

Called the next day (Thursday the 23rd if May) "nope not ready yet" "they are having more issues" WHAT!! "they'll need it another week". By this time my patience was wearing a bit thin :thumbdwn:

Almost a week went by and I called the mechanic on Wednesday the 28th of May for an update. "Worked has stopped on your Explorer due to a dispute between the auto trans place and the owner" (of the dealership where I brought it) "Owner won't pay the bill so auto trans guy won't fix it, and I'm not getting involved" says the mechanic!! FFS  my car was now stuck in limbo with dealer & auto trans guy at logger heads!!

Called the owner of the car yard...he's not available!!..left my number.

Finally got hold of the owner today today and got the 'real' story from him as I was getting no info on my Explorer what so ever before & I had to do all the chasing, remember this is still warranty work.

The owner filled me in. My car went to the trans place to have the torque seal done, after it was done, trans back in..and no drive..trans had to come out, the dealer said to have a look see if it can be fixed or put another trans in it. Auto trans place couldn't work out what was wrong, the problem was they wag stuffed it up and wanted to charge the dealer $2000 for the work and then the cost of another trans & any cost to put it back in.

The dealer refused to pay for the auto trans shonky work so they told the dealer to stick the car up his :mattmoon: and come and collect it and left it in pieces :mad::mad: in the back of my Explorer. If there is 1 mark of fluid stain or oil mark on the interior or carpet I'll go :censored: ape :censored: :fire::rant:

I have since found out it has been shipped to another trans place to be fixed and should be done by the end of the week.

So after 5 weeks I had better get it back :(

Cheers
Steve.
