2005 explorer 4.0 with 200k. I got it free because it needed quite a bit of work. I've fixed everything so far except this issue with the transmission.
When the engine/trans is cold it won't shift into gear. Reverse lights do come on and the column shifter feels as if it's functioning properly. After everything is warm it has no issues cycling through the gears. This also isn't 100% of the time, but most of the time.
It also has a rough shift from P to R initially.
Shifting seems fine for the most part when driving. Sometimes into 2nd has a slight delay. Into 3rd isn't super smooth, but not concerning.
Any ideas on troubleshooting it not shifting out of park? I did check the fluid and added trans tune while I was at it. It was never low, though.
