Autolocking Hub Problem

Help! I am having a problem with the autolocking hubs on my 92 Sport. Everything seemed to be working o.k. until I went to tow my two ski-doo's around from the backyard this afternoon...I put it in 4x4 because we have about 6" of snow on the ground and my backyard has two pretty mean hills (small but kind of a sharp angle)...anyway i made it to the front yard o.k. but going onto the road the tires started to spin...then it seemed that the 4x4 disengaged (for some reason the back tires were spinning...nothing in the front). I tried to put it back in but all it did was make a clicking sound when trying to move forward. Take it out of 4x4 and all seemed o.k. put it back in and the clicking noise is back. The PO just put new hubs on last winter...anyone with any idea of what may be wrong?

They may not have been installed right. Also, sometimes they need an added spacer to engage properly. Worst case, they are already shot, and you should replace them with manuals..... If you run a search for Auto Hubs and read thru the hundreds of threads, you'll learn all about how to fix or replace them.

It sounds like you blew up the hubs when you hit the pavement. Time to invest in a set of manuals.

that clicking sound is not really a good thing you know. Sounds like you blew them auto-hubs. I wouldn't replace with OEM but with a nice set of WARN Manual hubs. Should be cheaper than stock (and a lot better)

Hummm...that's not good...I have tried putting the X in 4x4 a couple of times since (including during a major snow storm last night and this morning) and all seems fine...no clicking...locked in no problem.

I had Midas look at the brakes yesterday and noticed that the hubs are packed full of grease. I have read on the forum that they should not be packed with grease...would this cause the problem? If so what is the best way of cleaning the grease out? Also what exactly needs to be soaked in ATF?
