I have a 98 EB, i'm having an issue with the climate control. The blower fan stays on high no matter what buttons I push. The temp will go up and down, it will change between all the settings like floor, vent, panel and even works when it's on auto, just won't change the speed of the blower motor. Craziest part is, the I turn it off, motor keeps running. Honestly, i would rather have it stuck on high then not work at all but i still need to get it fixed. Anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks
ryan

Probably the blower motor controller - a fancier (and more expensive) version of the blower resister used on manual systems. Also, the EATC unit has a self diagnostic capability - search on this forum and you can find how to put it in that mode and translate the codes. Good luck.

EATC diag mode doesnt work for diagnosing blower control module... ask me, my 2 EATC units, and the brand new blower control module I have how we know lol.

There is no built in diagnostic for that unit.

Remove the fan controller unit - it is around the passenger side fan area under the hood and has I believe 5 wires going into it. You may need to remove some accessories to get to it.

There may be a remote chance you can clean it up with electronics cleaner and possibly resolder a connection to get it working. In many cases they short out because of dirt and contaminants in the fan area. The fan helps cool down the power transistors on the unit.

Otherwise this is definitely a dealer only item - and it looks like it went up 3X from 6-7 years ago! Check rockauto though- since its a motorcraft (YH-1832) part they will have it! I'm shocked no one made an aftermarket unit! I once priced the components in the unit from retail electronic suppliers and it was under $15.

Thanks for the clarification the EATC diagnostic does not test blower - I did not remember that.

At $323 for a new blower motor module, I would be going the Pull-A-Part/JY route!!

Haven't had time to check anything yet but, when i left for work this morning it was blowing cold air, now after work will only blow hot air. Well, let the fun begin.

There could also be a blend door repair in your future as well. If IIRC the unit has a relay - if the relay is shorted out somehow power is always applied to the fan.

just replaced the module. Now i can shut it off & the auto function seems to work but all i'm getting is hot air. What next?

They do make an aftermarket module, $63 on rockauto. I just ordered it this past week. I can take a picture if you'd like as I haven't installed it yet.

Run diag mode, see if there are any codes, and clear them.

The aftermarket unit is for 98-01 exes. Earlier ones need a special wiring harness that has to be spliced in, the unit I posted $$$$ is a kit that you have to cut wires and crimp connectors.

I see there is a motorcraft one for $64 as well. If you can get a harness off a newer truck that will work for 95-97.

Does Max A/C work?

The OP has a 98.

Tried that, nothing. I'm assuming the ignition switch should be in the on position, correct?

ignition should be in the run position.

well got the self test to work. No codes come up. It runs through it's paces and it just ends with everything lit up. I have to push the temp buttons or the defrost to get it to work. When it is running the test i can hear the door moving in the plenum. Not sure where to look next.

EDIT: I missed a post. I'd check to make sure you are getting power to the clutch.
