Have a new problem with the automatic in my 94 xlt(4.0) When started from cold, takes a few seconds to engage in reverse, and then takes time to shift into drive when changed via the column lever. Not a problem once warmed up, and always up/down shifts smoothly on the road. Just had the fluid changed, no real difference. Would sure appreciate any help, including contact for a reliable shop to contact here in central Florida. Thanks!!

i just had a night mareish time with trans {5 speed auto}took the dealership 3 weeks to figure it out but now it works fine my advise is to get it fixed b4 it gets really bad

The likely problem is

The low/reverse servo leaking. These all suffer from wear in the A4LD. The leaking causes lower fluid pressure which causes other problems. This O ring is as easy to replace as a transmission filter. There is an updated part that uses a double lip seal made from an improved material. Further information can be found on the thread (page 2) located at:

Under the post name low/reverse servo (have to dig through about 20 posts). I heard Ford sells the same old O ring you can buy seperately. Bulkpart used to offer the complete seal kit, now only packed with clutches. If you ask, they would probably just sell the kit.

Thanks to all out there who replied to my problem with my '94 transmission problem. Local Ford dealer just quoted me about $70 dig fee on it. Sound fair to everyone? I plan on keeping it for years to come, just want an honest job. Last Ford I tore down had a c-6 attached to it!

Thanks guys,
John
