Got a '91 Mazda Navajo w/ 115K miles. First 6 years or so spent every summer weekend towing 3000lb boat (5 - 25 mi) Not so much last few yrs. I use cruise control alot! Ext. tranny cooler since mile 1. Fuild changed every 40-50K.
Problem: Started when using cruise control(CC) @65mph seems like trannie drops a gear & engine rpm goes up 800 - 1000 rpm. Now it does w/o CC being on but is MUCH WORSE when attempting to use CC. Also now seeing 200-400 rpm jump (torque convt. lockup???).
My shop guy pulled modulator hose, it was dry, does NOT want to change modulator. Could modulator be bad anyway?
Is this trannie toast?
BTW: engine has 185 compression across the board & runs well. Anyone know where I can find rocker panels and patch panels?
