Avic Z3 Install

I know it's weak but I put in a Pioneer Avic Z3 this weekend into my 2002...I will take some pics and put them up...I really like it and it was not too bad to put in...looks factory, but it has the Bluetooth Module, XM, and Ipod hook up. Everyone said the Ipod functionality on the Z3 stinks and maybe I'm new to the whole $2000 system, but I love it...

two things...I hate that fingerprints show up on the screen, but it is touch screen and the blue can not be changed to match all else that is green on the dash...just my .02 after a couple days...

ohhh and I need new speakers...the stock speakers are not fair for such a sweet HU

I just put JL AUDIO C2-570x 5X7" 2-WAY'S in and love them they sound way better the stock ones

thats why i changed all my stock lights to blue on the ac contols etc

hah and i did it all just to end up buying a kenwood touchscreen that changes colors later ged all my dash lights to blue

even though i ended up just buying a kenwood with changing color leds...
but hey the blue looks sick

not really...you just have to order the right leds and be decent at using a soldering iron..

thats to change the ac controls info center buttons, 4x4 buttons if you have em , window and lock switches....basically everything but the speedo cluster which is doable i think i just never got around to it

dude dont sound so ashamed of your system. I am still rocking the stock hu and speakers. It looks good and your happy and thats all that matters. Love the install and the fingerprints to go with it!

Nice HU Jsmart, i love pioneer and have always wanted an AVIC, just cant afford the damn thing! oh, i have my Ipod dock in my glove box as well until the spring, then its going in the center console

I have been looking at a Pioneer z3 but 1288 is best deal I have found besides ebay does anyone know a good place to buy from.

jsmart where did you mount the gps antenna?

good question...after much debate/testing I found there is a spot behind where the radio goes in over the glove box...I put down the metal pad and mounted the antenna on it. I'm getting 7 of 8 satallites and no trouble at all with reception. I saw this done on a Chevy truck and was a bit concerned with the singal getting through the windshield and the dash but it has not been a problem at all!

as far as buying one...I would get an Avic Z1, go to avic411.com and buy the Z3 harddrive upgrade for less than $100 and swap it out. The Z1s can be had for less than $700 add the $75+ dollar upgrade and you have a Z3...all other hadware is identical between the Z1, Z2, and Z3 only thing that changed was the software/firmware...I did the swap and it only took about 5 minutes and I have all the feature of the Z3 for half the price...

Not ashamed it just seems pretty weak compared to "I put in 2 15s, 10,500 Watts per speaker, shaking the glass out of the neighbors house" posts I'm used to seeing...It was actually my first HU install and I was glad I don't have wires hanging out all over the place like some I'm seen in other posts...but then again I don't need my music loud I just want a crisp/quality sound.

now I get to start on the typical 2002 crap...tranny, rear end, bearings, ect...I'm going to drive this thing until I die...lol
