I have a D44 from a 78 F-150 that I have swaped into my 91 explorer.
I had new gears, air locker, and bearings ans seals.
The problem is the axle tube seal on the long side is leaking, so I replaced the axle with a yukon 4340 unit thinking that the grooves in the axles from the old seals was causing the leaks, but the leak was still there so I replaced the new seal that was installed when the gears and locker where done with a new seal and it still leaks.
I am now not sure what to do??
When I got the D44 some of plug welds in the long tube where broke so I re welded them, how would you go about seeing if it was bent?
However I am getting very quick at dissassemble of a 44

what ever happened to your senerio?

There is a long story here,
The final solution was a seal made by Chicago rawhide (NAPA 13246)
It is much better IMO than the others
The long story

Thats good to know! I had a shop install my gears and lockers and I hope all went well with the tube seals.

Speaking of axle tube seals, I'm having a bit of a problem trying to figure out if there's somekind of tube seal at the outside end of the axle tube where the axle shaft sticks out of the tube through the knuckle. Did you end up putting anything there to seperate the shaft from the tube or knuckle?

That part of the tube is open and mud & grim accumalate in there so should you need to remove your shafts it is a good idea to scrap out the insides of the tubes before putting the shafts back in
