what year engine would fit in my 1996 explorer xlt. i currently have the 4.0L and would like the 5.0L V8. i have found a 1998 mountaineer motor adn was wodering if that would work or if a V8 from a 1985 towncar would work. the reason i want the V8 is merely the fact for more power and so i can supercharger it easier. i havefound many things for the 1996 V8 explorer but not the V6. if someone could let me know what will work i would appreciate it greatly.

You can do a 302 V8 swap.. Be aware that it will take alot of work since you have to replace practically everything. The V8 Explorers were available starting in 1996 if I recall.

there is a full write here some where i will try to search for the link, but it looks too hard for my taste

> as you are 19 i would say that you do not have tons of money or time or know how to do it

just sell your truck and buy a 5.0 X or monty

yeah it's not quite as simple as just popping in a new and bigger motor. There's mounts, mating transmission and mounts, driveshaft lengths etc etc... it is truly a monumental project....
