06 Limited. I anticipate installing a rear camera with a mirror cam. In powering up the rear (little red wire from the camera) this needs a 12v source from the back up lights. I have probed the light socket for my 12v source...NOW the question. In my experience with my 03 windstar I did this exact same thing ONLY the GEM module had so much bleed thru voltage that the mirror THOUGHT it was in reverse all the time. (only takes about 30 ma to activate "rear view camera).

Is the Explorer set up the same way? by having a GEM module? If you put LED lights in the reverse plug will they stay luminated (the Windstar would as they only need about .5 amp to light up dimmly)

I like to be fully prepared when doing tasks so if I need to add an electronic relay in line to close off the voltage that is doable but would like to know ahead of time.

Thanks

I hooked up a backup camera to my 07 Explorer pulling power off the reverse light on one side - no issues at all. Works exactly as expected.

TY....
hopefully will get a pass on this install...you know...where its actually just plug-n-play!!!...lol

I have a Pioneer backup camera to connect to my Pioneer headunit sometime soon when I can find a heated garage to tackle the job. Once I do I’ll update my build thread.

i guess we will find out today! as the camera/mirror arrives.
