I've got a '92, stock wheels and 235/75R15's. The tires are in need of replacement. I do have a set of 31x10.5x15's from my Jeep that will no longer be needed on it. Plent of tread left on them. Two of them are mounted on wheels with a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern, so I'd need to remount them onto the smaller pattern wheels. The wheels I would like to use are the stockers from my Jeep, they have 5.25" of backspacing. Will this combo on my Explorer rub anywhere? I'd just throw them on and check, but I don't want to go through the trouble of switching the two on the larger pattern wheels over to the smaller patterns if it's certian they will rub. Only concerned with rub during steering, the Explorer is my street vehicle.

Also, how to go about correcting the speedo for the larger tires?

Sorry about the long post, thanks for reading.

edit: search didn't answer my question, just confirmed my suspucions that 31's will fit without needing any lift.

You might want to research the backspacing though, I think you might rub on the sway bars with that backspacing. Im not 100% sure though.

I'm willing to bet that you'd rub your sway bars with that kind of back spacing.

They fit. Painted the wheels with light silver Rustoleoum Hammered finish.

They do rub the swaybar at full lock turning, but it's not bad. Those tires rubbed worse on my Jeep during turning.

Now, how do I recalibrate the speedo?

Truck looks good. You need to get the correct speedo gear now but im not sure which one, I think they go by color. Check with ford.

For speedo re-calibration, I'd just get a friend to drive in front of you on the highway and mark points for speed checks. (between exit 24 & 25 I was @ 65 flat, what did the explorer read, on Park street, between Miles and Davis St. I was @ 35 the whole way.) The amount it is off will vary at higher and lower speeds.

It will vary at a consistent rate. I think it is at about 5% with 31's over stock, but I too am wondering how to fix the speedo.
What gear do you get and where does it go?

The speedo senso on my Jeep is in the transfercase tailhousing, and recalibration is done by changing to a different tooth count gear. Speedo is calibrated electronically on some vehicles. Maybe I'll swing by the stealership on my day off this week and see if they have any idea.
