I just installed 55W halogen backup lights on my x. The new lights have a 15amp inline fuse. I wired everything up and spliced into the hot wire for the regular backup lights. When I put the truck into reverse it pops the fuse under the dash. The fuse under the dash is a 7.5 amp fuse. I assume it is popping due to the new lights drawing too much power. Any suggestions? Would I do any damage if put a higher AMP fuse in?

Power(W)=Voltage(V) X Current(I)
Assume 13 volts DC
I=55W/13=4.23amps....now that's per bulb...so 2 would be about 8.46 amps and blowing the 7.5amp fuse.
Your lowest fuse rating should be closest to the load, so yes, you need to upgrade the fuse at the dash.

fuses are made to protect the wiring. If you are going to run 8+ amps, make sure the cable can handle it. Stock wiring would be a little too small. Upgrade the wiring. it will be safer and make your lights brighter.

You really can not ask for a better answer than that.
Nice one RU

Thanks Monmix....

And like Jeff said above, think about the wiring.
I put a set of those "HID LOOK" bulbs in my headlights, XENON, much higher wattage than stock.
A new multifunction switch (turn signal switch) and 2 new headlight harnesses later I realize stock wiring was meant for stock loads!!!
Now I have no passenger side headlight 'cause it keeps blowing...no...destroying bulbs, haven't had a chance to troubleshoot that one yet :hammer: ...add it to the list!
