My backup lights went out--both, evidently at the same time. I replaced both bulbs plus the fuse (which wasn't blown) but my lights still don't work. I then checked wire continuity but that seems OK, too.

Does anyone have any ideas for me, please?

Thank, in advance, for any help.

Did you check the switch on the transmission? I just had my transmission replaced and now my backup lights arent working either. :(

Several people have suggested this, but I don't know where this switch is located. The owner's manual and the "3rd party" explorer book I have don't reference it!

Any ideas how to locate it? Is it on the steering column itself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Todd

I'm not sure but it might have something to do with the wiring harness for towing. My dad took our explorer in last year for emissions and the guy said that some of the lights in the rear weren't working. My dad can't remember if it was the license plate lights or the backup lights but he pluged in the wiring harness and they worked. The reason he had it unplugged was everytime you stepped on the brake there was a clicking noise from the lights that was annoying. So plugging it back in turned on the lights and it passed emissions. Check to see if you're wiring harness is plugged in, if you have one, to see if that turns them back on. This may sound kind of confusing but that's all that I can think of.

Ok, I see....My suggestion was for a manual tansmission equipped Explorer.....Cant help when it comes to auto trannys
