I searched for awhile and came up with "flared shifts"

Basically my 00 4.0 has I guess what could be best described as a pause between 2nd and 3rd. I can feel it come out of second, rpm's will free ball up and then it shifts into 3rd, sometimes a little harder depending on how much throttle is going on.

Is this what is called the flared shifts? And that simple selinoid fixes it?

Thanks for any help guys.

Welcome to this forum! There are several factors for a shift flare. The EPC is one of them. It's caused by a sudden loss in hydraulic pressure. The loss might be due to a bad gasket, O ring, worn surface area, sticking spool or valve in the valve body, leaking servo or misadjusted band.

I would also add that you should read the 5r55e rebuild diary sticky in the tranny section, it has some invaluable information on this problem, and what upgrades/fixes help to improve and remove this issue.
