Since Ive owned my 2003 explorer Ive noticed this on ALLOT of other Ford vehicles were the front rims are just black covered in brake dust, yes I do allot of city driveing and thats probably why I have to get out clean my rims on a weekly baisis BUT I was wondering if someone found an cure for this problem better brake pads ext? My explorer was pruchased in Sept so it probably had new pads and rotors all the way around put on when I purchased it ( as i know they still look brand new) is this brake dust problem just a cheap ford pad issue or a pad / rotor combination. anyhow if posssible id like to cure this problem to save me time from cleaning the rims and so they dont screw up my rims over the long run

thanks
Dave

2 choices dust shields or ceramic pads

Dave I notice the same thing. My fathers 03 expedition has 70,000 miles and is on his 4th set of ford pads and rotors, front and rear, although he drives like a madman. I hear the premium ceramic pads are low on dust and last a decent amount of time, although I dont know what the stock pads are, ceramic or not.

not ceramic semi metalic

thanks

Awsome, I know its not good practice to put new pads on old rotors, BUT
ive only put on about 5000 K since I purchased the truck, I'll go purchase a nice set of Ceramics this weekend and stuff them on and see what happens

thanks

You probably won't have any problems, but I would have your rotors turned to correct any possible thickness variation which inturn could lead to pedal pulsation.
