I've been trying to diagnose this problem for a while now with little success. My Ex is riding pretty rough. I've been looking into the bad cat possibility but need advice.
Symptoms:
1.very poor fuel economy
2 loss of power
3. bucking/shaking
4. the fuel smells very rich. no rotten egg smell though
It hasn't made the "check engine" light come on or thrown any codes so that is what is confusing me. I recently fixed a botched DIY plug and wire setup the previous owner had attempted and he was for I don't know how long runnning on 7 of 8 cylinders. would this have caused the cat to go bad? Consequentially making the O2s go bad as well?
FYI I checked the FPR and didn't notice any fuel drip or odor eminating from it so unless theres another way to diagnose without pulling the PITA thing off I'm all ears.
