I have a 98 x sport v-6 sohc. It will not idle when cold. After five minutes of warm up it idles just fine. Any suggestions?

Upper/Lower intake gaskets, 00M12 recall if under 70,000 miles.

I had the same problem on my 98 sport. I had to get the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets replaced. Done by the dealer on a special extended warrenty issued by ford.

See if you've had the 00M12 recall done. (Sounds like you haven't). Or check your IAC (Idle air control valve). Either of those are probably your problem. The 00M12 recall (actually a TSB, not a recall) fixes the leaky o-ring seals Ford used in your lower intake. You can also try cleaning your IAC. You can get a lot more info about these by searching this site. I'd take down your VIN number and give your Ford dealership a call and see what they say about your 00M12. If you're under 72k, Ford fixes it for free.

Thanks Guys

Took it in to the dealer for the gaskets and tensioner. Everything was fixed no cost. She runs like a charm again!!!
