I know gas mileage topics on the board are very common, but I can't seem to figure out why my 93 gets such bad mileage. It runs great, no knock, no ping, and uses no oil, runs like a champ, but according to my last tank MPG, I got 12.3 mpg, and I even did the egg-under-the gas-pedal trick. This weekend I plan on replacing the spark plugs and wires and possibly the thermostat because the engine does run cold most of the time, but when it is above 90 degrees the engine runs in the normal range.

Do synthetic fluids make much of a difference? It has had conventional 10W30 oil all of its life, but only has 78K miles. Should I switch to 5W-30 oil?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

some months ago I changed the fuel filter, the spark plugs and wires add a KN air filter and the gas comsuption stayed the same...then some weeks ago I changed the thermostat and :D ...that was the diff.
