I have a 94 ex with 166,000 miles on it. I took the chance on taking it to see my son I live in Ct. and he is going to School in Lima Ohio this is about a 13 hour drive. the truck was running great I filled up in Pa. and after a few miles the check engine light was coming on and it was running real rough. I pulled in to a rest stop at one point and the idle was very erratic I left the rest stop and after the next fill up again in a few miles the truck evened out the engine light stopped comming on and it was running great. I am thinking it was just a case of bad gas because I drove it all the way home with not a lick of trouble, should I check for codes or would they not be stored being that it is running fine now and is there anything other then my bad gas theory that I should look into?

It wouldn't hurt to have it scanned for codes. I had something similar happen to me. Was driving along and the light came on and it felt like it wanted to die but not even 30 seconds later the light went out and all was well and that was over 2 years ago. I'm just to lazy to have it scanned.

Since you are in the northeast, it could be Ethanol gas related. Just a thought.

More than likely just bad gas. Unfortunatley, some gas stations really do water down their gas to get more out of it, since it is so expensive for the small business owners to buy it from the manufacturer. Sounds like after you filled it up again at a different(I'm guessing part of a large chain) gas station the problem went away for the rest of the trip and the return trip home, so I would not worry about it. I bet if you pull the codes it will show a misfire code due to the bad gas. Hope this helps:)

Yeah, bad gas was all I could think of thanks for all the replys I will pull the codes just to be safe but like I said It's runnin great now.
166,000 miles I put over 1500 of those on this weekend and I didnt lose a drop of oil.....God I love my truck
