I have a 2013 Explorer with 20k miles, the last couple days I have noticed a whirling/slight rattling/whining noise coming from the passenger side front wheel well. I have looked under the hood in the area of the serpentine belt but dont notice anything unusual. Could a belt go bad at 20k miles or could it be something else? Anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to the Forum Thepancakeman.:wavey:
It would be very unusual for a belt to go bad with that mileage on it but then in reality, anything can go bad at anytime. It might possibly be bearings as well. Does the sound increase/decrease when you vary the engine speed? Cooling fans?

Peter thanks for the idea, but the noise is still there even when the dan stops. The noise sounds like how a roller skate wheel would sound if you spun the wheels.

That then sounds like it may be a bearing issue.

I recommend making an appointment at your dealership, Thepancakeman; they'll get this diagnosed and suggest next steps. Additionally, I want to loop in your regional customer service manager involved so they can ensure this gets resolved. To get things rolling, send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership.

Thanks Crystal,

I have an appt for Thursday, I will post what they find.
