Bad Transfercase?

I had the same problem. I thought my VC was froze. Dealer thought the rear diff was locked. No one could find it until it broke completely. It was the front drive shaft. There is a coupler at the rear of the drive shaft that connects to the transfer case. Crawl under and check to see if the bolts are tight. Grab it with both hands and shake it. If it moves, its bad.

Here is a link to everything you ever wanted to know about this:

I'll have to check how tight the bolts are the next time I go home. It hate not having a garage and I left all my tools in my dad's garage a couple weeks ago.

Update:

I was driving to my parents house last friday (around 75 miles), I stopped for gas about half way home, when I took off from the gas stop the 4Hi and 4Lo lights were flashing. The front end was bucking really bad when I pulled in and out of the gas station. It went back to the mechanic and he said the t-case is bad and they're looking around for a replacement. That sucks pretty bad.

thanks for the updade. For some reason I thought you had an AWD... Now I see your avatar. Im a dork.

Hope it all goes well. It will be interesting to see exactly what went wrong with your TC.

Rob_B - did you ever find out what was wrong with your t-case?

I have a similar binding in the front and my front drive shaft was turning as if completely locked in 4H even while in Auto. I removed the drive shaft and no more binding in tight turns (for obvious reasons - no more power to the front wheels!). The interesting thing is that the flange on my t-case still turns - definitely a problem with the t-case staying engaged (even with the electronic harness disconnected).

Thanks!

This morning my front end started binding up when I was turning into a parking garage and the parking stall. I drove it over to a shop and I'm waiting to hear from the mechanic. I'll post whatever i find out and how the problem gets fixed.

Got a call from the Mech' and he said both outer cv's were worn out and binding up when turned. I'm having both front axle assembly's replaced and then I'm going to put it up for sell. It's high mileage but very clean.
