2003 Explorer XLT
Hi, Have a 4D 2003 Explorer XLT and just changed my 4 tires.

While driving, the tires are really loud and driving me crazy....when I swerve left or right, the noise gets even louder....Im guessing that both front ball joints are bad.......and if so, does anyone know an approximate cost of changing the 2 front ball joints if I get it serviced.....Someone told me it would cost up to 1000$...does that sound right or should it be less??? thanks :)

did the noise appear the first time you drove on your new tires? whats the noise sound like?

The noise was there for quite some time.....seeing my tires were pretty much finished, I thought the noise was from the tires......so now I got 4 new tires, and the noise is still there

Sounds like loud tires or rotary noise....and it gets louder when in a curve or when I change lanes....swerve left or right.....if I drive in a straight line, the noise is still there but not as loud as when I swerve.....

No vibrations on the steering wheel and the truck seems pretty well aligned...

wheel bearings would be my guess. theres probably a way to check them to be sure.

wheel bearing.......I was guessing it could be the ball joints but im far from being a mechanic.......Either way...im sure if I bring it in to the dealer that they will
get me dizzy with the labor fees $$$$

bring it to a local shop. or do it yourself it will give you great satisfaction, and you could find out anything you need to know on this site. i'm gonna research some and see how hard it is, i dont really know about the front end because mines getting cut out soon anyways.

Thanks btimm86, much appreciated.....I dont feel too comfortable doing it myself...I guess i'll bring it to a local shop.....:(

yeah no prob, the front end looks pretty annoying.
