I was in to the local Ford dealer a couple of weeks ago to get my ABS codes read. (Turns out it was the right front hub assembly which I replaced about a year ago; so much for cheaping out on non-OEM parts). The dealer "advisor" told me that my upper and lower ball joints were almost shot and needed replacing. I'm always skeptical of their advice at the best of times, wondering if this is true, or a scam to up-sell me. They would not have had to lift up my Exp to scan codes, so how would they know? The dealers "logic" was that I have almost 200,000 km on the vehicle, therefore they need changing. How can I tell if I need to replace these. and is it any easy fix? Thank you in advance for any advice/information you can offer.

almost shot

so leave them, they said almost, what happened was they probably raised the vehicle up to check for "play" in the wheel bearing and noticed the parts are "almost" shot, did you tighten the new wheel bearing to specification?

The AWD/4WD hubs are tightened to "as tight as you can get them" about 250lbs.ft. of torque.

The upper control arms don't usually reach 100,000 miles before wearing out. Buy the arms and find an alignment shop to inspect the rest. Good luck,
