Ball Joints Replacement

I have a 1997 2x4 4.0sohc 158k. No leaks or any anything. I have asked a few questions in the past so thank you everyone for your help.

I needed new brakes and tires so I got them installed today however they told me that i need to replace my lower ball joints (1200.00) I don't believe he said upper (I just got the call so i have to pick it up) is it worth it for me to find someone to replace the ball joints or time to sell the car with new tires and brakes?

I have never done that work before however I am rebuilding my cj7 so i feel that I could do the work but is it worth it?

How much time would I have before something seriouse goes out with them? What are symptons?

I have only replaced minor things these past 2 years i've owned it.
KEEP IT OR SELL IT? What's it worth?

Keep it. Moog ball joints are $30 something a piece and they're easy to change. Pound'em out, press'em back in. Alignment. Explorer still has a lot of life left to it as long as you take care of it, ultimately it's up to you though if it's worth it to you or not. There is a how to sticky on how to do it, do a search and your sure to find it.
