Hi.
i have a small transmission shop in ISRAEL. a client of mine has a 2007 V8 explorer that clanks hard from 1st to 2nd when its cold. i also noticed a very light rumble that lasts two-three seconds when downshifting from 2nd to 1st.
also somtimes, when downshifting to 1st, it does`nt engaging for a second or two.
any known diseases before i take down the pan?
btw, transmission has 70K miles.
thanks

The 07 v8 has 6r60 tranny, and they all have the issue of 2-1 shift. 1-2 is unusual. There are some computer updates but overall it's a hit or miss. Even the 2010 and 2011 F150's with similar 6r80 still have issues.

I would not drop the pan for that, although it's a good idea at this mileage to change the filter and fluid.

Mine 06 has 149k miles on original 6r60 and still runs pretty well.

it has 1,2,3,D and an overdrive button.
do you still think its an 6R60?
which letter in the VIN indicates the tranny?

All Explorers with 24 valve (3valve per cylinder) 4.6 v8 from 2006-2007 have 6r60, 2008-2010 have 6r80 (same tranny, higher torque).

The 4.0 v6 have 5r55 I believe.

the VIN will not tell the tranny, just the engine, the 8-th digit should read "8", which is the code for v8.

if you goto fordparts.com and enter the vin number, it will say the tranny type
