I've been running dual Optimas for a while now: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167430, but ran into a problem a few months ago. We had a large storm here and lost power in our residence. I used the aux. battery (w/inverter) to run the fish aquarium, to keep stuff alive. My isolator should have allowed the aux. batt. to drain, while keeping the starting batt. alive. This didn't happen and they neutralized themselves and both were drained. I switched the batt. lines going to the isolator (thinking I had installed them backwards), but both batts. died again after draining one overnight.
Here's my two part question:
1.) Is there a simple way to test the solid-state of my isolator to tell why it's failing?
2.) I've been using a 120A Sure Power isolator in line with my OEM 95A alt. However, I will be replaceing my long dead alt. with a 130A alt. Sure Power tech. support says this will hurt the isolator. Is there a way to add a voltage regulator that would lower a 130A alt. to 120A? Otherwise, can I just put a larger pulley on the alt. to lower its amp. rating?
