My 1998 Mercury Mountaineer (Mercury's Explorer) is locked. But, the battery is dead and the remote won't work nor will the key in any key access. I don't want to break a window to unlock it.

Do I have to call a locksmith??? Any suggestions?? Please advise. Thanks.

manual unlock

On my 2000 Sport the ignition key will unlock the front doors manually by inserting the key in the lock and rotating it. Try spraying light weight penetrating oil (WD40) into the lock. Attach the small diameter straw to the can and use it to move the rain cover out of the way before spraying. Insert and extract the key multiple times to help lubricate the lock tumblers.

Locked out

Thank you very much! Your suggestion worked perfectly. . I appreciate it. Thanks again. Another question….The air-conditioner blows hot. That is a definite no go for South Texas. My owners manual does not show me how to add Freon. I am going to buy some, but I don't know exactly where you put it in. Suggestions please. Thanks much.
