With the panel screwed in place, is there room to place a 'hidden' battery in place of the pocket on the pass. side? It would, for safety sake, have to be a sealed battery, preferably a Optima, in a Moroso Box.

What are the specs of the depth and width of the area in question?

i dont think that area is large enough for a battery, and especially not in a battery box....

You wouldn't be able to in the pocket but it might be a tight fit on the other side of the passenger side of the fenderwell. You'd need to run some sort of ventalation line from the battery box to the outside. Your best bet it just to find some way to but the battery box under your X. Safest and easiest to concel IMO.

if you get a dry cell battery you dont need to ventilate it...optima yellowtop is a common choice.

why would you need a second battery though? it will just limit the life of your alt but putting farther strain on it. Upgrade the magic three wires under your hood and then upgrade your alt and you should be set

actually the optimas still vent..... they just can be mounted any direction due to their construction.. they have little vents on top that look like round pieces of grey emryboard

hmm..i was told because they're a dry cell you can safely hid them anywhere in your vehicle without ventilation problems.

either way i wont ever use deep cycles to begin with...ill stick with as many cranking amps as possible

I had a battery installed there in my Explorer. Worked great too. So don't let anyone tell you it won't fit. I had a fan in there for ventilation purposes.

yep, maybe aside from huge batts, most batts will fit there. I knew of a person with a stinger sp800 back there, fit fine. I may try and wedge a group 31 blue back there come spring? Dang BBQ you had a great lookin install :(

And yes optima's may vent, but typically you shouldn't see it.
"2. Does OPTIMA® ever gas?

When used with a properly regulated constant voltage charging system (such as an alternator) the OPTIMA will usually not emit hydrogen gas. However, gassing can occur when charging at higher voltage levels or in extreme high temperature conditions. In automotive applications this typically will not happen if the alternator/regulator stay below 15 volts." straight from optima's site.

I was going to use an Optima to replace the battery in the Cad. It's under the rear seat. The folks at Optima DO NOT recomend putting their battery in the interior of a veh.
It's not too tough to use a vented battery and drill a hole for the vent tube.

I am going to 'semi-seal' the battery in that location, and have a vent tube that leads to the rear of the X, right behind the tail lights.

Just make sure to take good care when installing the battery and make sure to fasten it down very well in that location. The sheet metal is pretty thin there and if you're not careful you'll end up with some reversed dents on the outside of the rear fender. :p

My mounts actually come through the floor, and are re-enforced...and the battery is NOT moving.....
