so I bought a used sport trac 2001 and I just noticed the other day that the battery is not being held down by anything. Firstly, do I have the factory holder/tray/pieces? I'm guessing i probably need the battery heat shield, but if anyone knows... can you please tell me what I need from this diagram to hold the battery down. Do I really need everything in the link below? thank in advance

The thin plastic shield does nothing really. The battery is anchored by a plastic "wedge" block at the bottom of battery on the engine side the bolt that holds that wedge is a 13mm and the terminals on top are 8mm.

No, you don't need the plastic cover. The battery should be held down by the plastic wedge on the bottom lip of the battery.

The parts description shows it as a "heat shield".
It was the second part I removed after the roof rack.

Your battery is a Group 65, the spacer block should bolt right in.

if the OE spacer costs the same price as this one, shouldn't i just buy the OE spacer?

I always prefer OEM parts, especially electrical and sensors. Chassis and brakes are exceptions. Reason? They FIT. ;)

I think I will go ahead and order what you suggested. It seems like it will be more convenient. Was thinking it would come with a nut but it looks like from looking at the battery try, the nut is built in

my guess is that I'll only be needing the gold screw?

the link you placed has 3 parts...1 spacer and 2 screws. Just wondering why that is instead of 1 screw and 1 nut

1. Remove the battery and compare your parts to the diagram.
2. Order any missing parts.
3. Install.

Simple huh?

wow...a little sarcastic are we? I actually took your advice and just ordered it online the same day mentioned the link thinking you had figured out. Now you're saying order any missing parts when simply asking why are there 2 screws instead of 1 and a washer??? Don't bother replying..might have been better that I didn't take you're advice in the first place considering the attitude you're projecting to a completely legitimate question. I laid it all out right from the start. Might have been better to ask someone else or just go to the dealer. Thanks but no thanks

Can't say I wasn't trying to help, after all I replied 6 times, including links. Sorry if I came across that way, just seemed to be getting redundant. Honestly, it's really hard to tell what parts are missing with the battery in place. IIRC, the long bolt holds the bottom of the tray to the frame. Either way, I hope you get it fastened down safe and secure. Cheers.

Hey oz one question for ya in your picture we can't tell if the battery is anchored give the Handel on the battery a good tug upward and if it comes out then then you need the anchor wedge me Hawaii and midnight mentioned either link will get you what you need the dorman part has one extra part. The black 4-5inch long bolt is unused in our truck.

Best of luck buddy hope it turns out for you

P.S. no need for the battery cover ditch it unless you are looking for a all parts and numbers matching truck

sorry if I was being a little harsh...yes, i purchased the used vehicle and noticed there was nothing holding the battery down. In any case, I value everyone's input. I'm glad we can all come together and resolve these issues no matter how small or big they may be

finally got the spacer...it fits perfect! it actually goes upside-down and the washer stays on top. As previously mentioned, you could toss away the black screw. Just keep the gold one. The nut is built into the battery tray :) Thanks again everyone!

here is what it looks like
