I took it off and now I can't tighten it back up again because the ring on the oppisite side of the terminal is slipping as I am ratcheting the other side up. I tried to grip the ring with some pliers but but it keeps slipping out as I turn it because there is no thread on it. What is the best solution to this problem? If there was only some way to stop the ring on the other side from spinning to the screw can thread its way in there.

I don't need any fancy ring terminals I just want to fix this one that I have right now.

I don't think there's a good way to "fix" it.. Just buy a replacement at the auto parts store for like $3-5.

Real easy to do, just remove the factory one, cut the wires off, strip the ends, and tighten them down inside the brackets of the new one. Tighten the new one down onto the battery post, goop it up with anti-corrosion gel ($.99pkg), close the hood, and turn the key.

[edit]

Made that final recommendation assuming the reason the ring was slipping was because of excess corrosion.

In any case, if you can't figure out a way to tighten it down, then just replace it. It's cheap and easy, and you car won't cut off if you run over a speedbump or railroad tracks.

Its one of those things that isn't worth fixing, better off replacing. For $3, you don't want that thing getting loose in the middle of the highway, dude.

IF you don't want to cut the old terminal off, just put a regular bolt in there instead...
