I have a pioneer deh-6400 (i think) and i'm trying to figure out if i toasted it or not. I'm trying to hook it up to a 3 amp powersupply and i cant seem to get it to turn on, though im not sure if i have the wires hooked up correctly. Yellow is positive black is negative and the blue and white wire (amp wire) gets hooked up the the positive. I can get it to beep at me but im not sure if i have it hooked up correctly.

Don't hook the amp wire to a power source. That is only for when it is in the car, and hooks up to the amp so it turns on when you turn on the HU. You don't need the yellow wire either. That is for the memory (so when you turn off the car, you don't loose your preset stations and clock settings), but it won't hurt to have it hooked up. I believe all you need to hook up to make it work is the + & - wires, which should be red(or blue) and black respectively. Let me know if you need more help, and I'll look it up in my manual. (I have a pioneer HU too).

I'll try it again. IM pretty sure the yellow wire is a power wire. it labeled battery and is thicker than the rest so im pretty sure it needs to be hooked up.

HU works, My truck had an aftermarket CD changer and the wires for it are all over the place. I thought i could get away with cutting it and leaving it at that but no luck. This leads me to my next question. I want to cut all that crap outa there, I should be able to cut off the stock connector and then wire the HU right up to the power leads? This is gonna disconnect the stock amp but im going to run speaker wire to each speaker.

Glad to hear it works. Sounds like you're doing the same as me. I have been trying to find an amp bypass kit. I know they make one, but it's been such a hassle (there are like 5 different ones) and I would have to order one ($50). Then what if it doesn't fit? So I figure since I'm putting FatMat in, and will have all the interior out, I would just put in new speaker wire and bypass everything myself. However, I hear it is a pain to get the wires to the front door speakers. What gauge wire would you use? Would 16 or 14 be good enough?

I was thinking about it and i think i should be able to use the power adapter that came with it assuming it isn't to messed up from the aftermarket CD changer. I plan on using 16 gauge speaker wire and running it to the doors. A coat hanger should get it through the rubber boots for the doors and to the speakers.

yup, just be prepared for lots of fun when it comes to the doors.... I put, 14 guage to all doors.... good luck...
