The truck has gotten to the point that if you leave the interior lights on for an hour the truck won't start. I live in snow country and want a battery that will last and get us through some pretty cold weather, and don't want to pay $100.00 or more if we don't have to.

Find a Battery that has over a two year warranty. I always have installed a 1000 Cranking Amp (@32F) 850 (@ 0F) battery.
You get what you pay for. I can leave lights on in my explorer overnight, and have no problem starting in the morning.....

yup, you do get what you pay for... the optimas are great... they are expensive though... also the procomp batteries and the exide orbital batteries are also good (not many know this, but they are all made by exide)

I heard that Excide makes Sears Batteries, and thry have that new Rang Handler for trucks and SUV's do you think they'd be as good as maybe the red top?

And are the Optima's worth the money they're asking for them. THe cheapest I've found eas the red top at Pep boys for about $119.00

Sorry my mistake

There is probably no such thing as BEST. That said, I am on the original Ford battery in my "99 here in the blistering Florida weather.

I usually replace my batteries with the best that Sears has. Interstate are good, Oprima is good. Just stay away from el cheapo ones,.
Good luck......

Pep Boys has one that has 1050 ca 875 cca, 165 minutes reserve, but only a two year free exchange and 1000 month pro-rate. It sounds good, but....

I just had a stinger 1000 installed !

what a big difference,my stock motorcraft was on the way out,a bad cell most probably.

I also changed to stinger battery cables with the matching clear covers.I was trying to clean-up the mess of wires going to the battery.

the battery is laying on it's side, and now with the ac on with my lights.....there is no longer a big dip in my volt gauge.

I've had real good luck with Autozone's Duralast Gold Battery(~$85) I let my old Bronco sit in storage fo over a year, and it cranked over like it sat for a night, I have a Motorcraft Silver Series in my Ex (~$90) so far it's been real good, it has 3 yr free replacement, and 100 month pro-rated.

-I had a Die Hard RangeHandler ($100) in another Bronco of mine, I was very disappointed with it, It did not seem to have good reserve power, and both Broncos were in storage together I had to Jump the Diehard with the Duralast, and the Diehard was newer!

I've got a 2 year old Sears Range Handler in my '97. It is the same battery as the Diehard Gold except it has a stronger shell and more durable interior for off-roading. It came with a 3 year free replacement, 100 month pro-rated warranty. After 2 years, it still starts like the battery is brand new. At least you know you won't have to spend a dime on another battery for at least 3 years.

I tried to get the Range Handler North, sine we get -0 weather here, and Seas doesn't sell that battery here. THey said I would hae to go as far the San Fransico bay area to find one.

What I did end up with is sn energizer from Pep Boys. it only has a 2 year over the counter exhange, but is rated at 1000ca and 875 cca, and 165 reserve minutes, it 74.99 and if the number are right, I think I did pretty good. But I really thought the casing on the Range Handdler would help protect the battery from geting thrashed around too much.

I'll let you guys know how it works out, because those numbers are some of the best I've seen.

Thanks alot for your time in responding and advice.

Very strange, I went to get some info to cut and paste for those who might be intrested. But Pep Boys doesn't list that battery tight now, and I could not find it with the help of their sear engine.
The energizer Part Number:65-L
65-986
7-21112-76588
The List is states as being 101.69 but they had them on sale for $69.98 and with 1000ca and 875 cca, and 165 reserve minutes, it caame to 74.99 with tax... anyway I can't find anymore info on it. I better double check the battery I bought it almost sounds too good to be true.
