I would like your opinion on brake pads.
(1) which is best in your opinion - metalic, semi, etc?
(2)Brand(s)
(3) What kind of life are you getting out of them?

Thanks...

By brake pads, I assume you're talking about disc brake pads (as opposed to drum brake shoes - rear).

Pads can be regular (asbestos) or semi-metallic. The regulars are less expensive, usually don't last as long, fade when hot or wet. The semi's are pretty much the opposite, and stop the vehicle better. A semi-metallic pad is harder on the rotor - especially the lesser expensive pads.

Shoes are almost always asbestos - it is very difficult to bond semi-metallic shoe material to the brake shoes.

Brands - I use Bendix TituMetallic. Ford uses Bendix brakes, and the Titu's work better than the factory originals. They also do not tear up the rotor like some pads. I tried Bendix's Fleet pads, but they cost more, and didn't work as well for me. They were also harder on the rotor.

Mileage - I don't know. I'm put in my 4th set (including the originals) at ~150K miles.

Thanks for the reply, And yes, I did say PADS since my 99 has them on all corners,

What price were you paying for the semi metallic pads?

Thanks...

Carbon Friction Matalic

You can't beat them.....mainly the lifetime warranty. I'm on my 4th set now and I've only paid for one. I'm not sure why they offer the warranty, but they do. Just take them back and you get a new set. :) Just keep the recept. I think I paid about 60 for the front.

Stupid question here!!!

Is this a brand name or type of pad?
Where do you get them...any parts store?

oops.....Carbon Friction Metalic

That's better. I got mine from AC DELCO. I think I've seen them online before too, but I'm not sure

Leebo means to say Performance Friction Carbon Metalic pads. $30 at Autozone.

That sounds good to me

Yeah, I went with the performance carbon metalic pads called Brutstop by Rabestos. They are great! They were like 50 bucks from pep-boys. I did the shoes as well, they are made by Rabestos as well, but they do the asbestos in them...

I think the reason they offer the 'free' replacements is to get you to come back for other things while your there. If you get them and have the shop do the work, they still charge for labor. Or you buy your rotors there when they go out because you have to get your new pads there anyway.....etc.. It's just a way to get you to come back. Works on me!!
I used Raybestos Brut-Stop, but switched to Quiet-Stop this last time to see if they are any better. They are made from a ceramic material and are supposed to be better at stopping and quieter. See to be good so far.

We use Performance Friction pads and have had great luck with them..

I tried using BruteStop by Raybestos.. The Brutestops are supposed to be new (not rebuilt) but I found 2 anti squeak pads rivoted to the pad.. and one on each Pad had Caliper marks on it.. On top of that the rivots on the back of the pads sheered.. Needless to say I went back to Performance Firction after that (that was after <1000 miles)
